Becoming an apprentice - everything you need to know

If you are interested in becoming an apprentice, trainee or cadet, AiGTS can tell you everything you need to know about your new career, and we will look after you along the way. Taking on an apprenticeship is a big commitment and we'll make sure you have everything you need to help you finish your apprenticeship successfully in order to move through your career and meet your personal career goals.

We'll provide advice on a range of workplace issues from Award rates, safety, training, and possible career pathways, to information on financial assistance and government initiatives.

For example, did you know that apprentices can receive government funding to purchase necessary tools and equipment? Or that as an apprentice, you are entitled to the same rights of on the job safety and security as every employee in the business, regardless of position.

That's why AIGTS is here, to help you make the right choices in your career and support you along the way. If you make the commitment to an apprenticeship, we'll make a commitment to you.

Our people, many of whom started their careers as apprentices and trainees, know just what it is like to take on an apprenticeship, start your first day on the job, and combine working with further learning, so they understand how you feel. We can help you get the right answers to your questions, and will be with you throughout your apprenticeship.

We know what is important to you, and your family, and we can provide information and services to you to help you make the right choice for you, and your career.

We'll advise you on your wages and how they compare with university fees, we'll direct you to government scholarships pertinent to your industry, we'll help you obtain government assistance for tools for your trade, and most of all, we'll look after your health and safety while you are at work.

If you take on an apprenticeship, traineeship or cadetship through AiGTS, you are employed by us and placed into a Host Company's business. Read the AiGTS Apprentice & Trainee Employment Manual which covers all aspects of being employed as an apprentice or trainee. The manual includes information on safety, Awards and legal requirements, and compliance issues.

All apprentices and trainees must read this manual and sign the back page to accept the terms and conditions of employment with AiGTS.
